GUEST speaker Freda Millet will give the illustrated talk Scattered Homes at the next meeting of Crompton Historical Society.

It takes place at Crompton Library, Shaw, at 7.30pm on Thursday, October 25. Admission £1 with refreshments.


TICKETS are now on sale for a bonfire night party at the parish centre in Church Street, Royton, on Saturday, November 3, from 6pm. Fireworks are at 7pm. Proceeds to St Paul’s Restoration and Development Fund.


DARE you enter Shaw Playhouse 2 on Hallowe’en? Go down in fancy dress, enjoy face painting and watch the film “Hocus Pocus” at 3pm. Tickets are £3 from Interiors, in Market Street, or pay on the door. Lorna Barry is holding the event to raise cash for her trip to Ecuador as part of Camps International.


DR Kershaw’s Hospice is holding a farmers’ market on Sunday, from 10am. Stalls will be selling homebakes, jewellery, sausages and much more.


HOMEWATCH meetings are taking place tonight at The Oddies, in Royton, from 7 to 8pm, and next Thursday, October 25, at Laburnum House, from 7 to 8pm.


ROYTON Local History Society is holding a talk on the history of the police, at Downey House, Royton, from 7.30pm on Monday, November 12.

BLOOD donor sessions are being held at Royton Trinity Methodist Church, on Friday, November 2. Sessions are from 1.15 to 3.30pm and 5.15 to 7.30pm.
