First meeting

THE first meeting of Royton’s new Royal British Legion branch will take place at Royton Cricket Club on Thursday, April 14.
The meeting, from 7pm for a 7.30pm start, is open for anyone to attend, find out more and join.
GREEN-FINGERED volunteers are needed for the St Anne’s Church Gardening day on Saturday, April 16. Anyone who can spare some time to help keep the Royton church’s gardens tidy is welcome to come along from 9.30am.
TAKE on a challenge for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice by signing up for this year’s Hospice to Hospice Walk on April 24. The walk takes participants from Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in Royton to Springhill Hospice in Rochdale and back. Registration, costing £7, is now open online at www.drkershawshos pice.org.uk.
ROYTON Townswomen’s Guild will hear from Mike Gurney on Tuesday, April 12, as he gives a talk entitled “Beyond the Curtain”. The talk takes place at 7.30pm at Royton Town Hall. Entrance costs £2 for members, £3 for visitors including refreshments.
LEARN more about “The Last Laugh of the Railway King” as Geoff Scargill gives a talk at Royton Local History Society on Monday, April 11. The talk takes place at Downey House, Church Street, from 7.30pm.
GRAVELHOLE Methodist Church, in Castleton Road, Royton, will open its Chapel Community Shop tomorrow, from 9am to 12.15pm. Items for sale include homemade crafts, cakes, preserves and gifts.
SPEAK to local police officers at a surgery at Trinity Methodist Church, Radcliffe Street, Royton, from 10am to 12noon on Thursday.
