Mary bows out at 101
Date published: 06 October 2011
ONE of Oldham’s oldest residents has died just weeks after celebrating her 101st birthday.
Mary Brown, a great-great grandmother, who had lived in her Chadderton home for 70 years, had marked her birthday by insisting “it’s just another day”.
The former tailor was born in Edinburgh and moved to Chadderton when her husband, William, got a job in a local bakery. Their daughter, Elizabeth, died 22 years ago. Mary leaves four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at St George’s tomorrow at 11am followed by committal at Hollinwood Crematorium at 12.30pm. Family flowers only, all donations to St George’s.
