Have your say on merger of schools
Date published: 16 January 2012
OLDHAM Council and the Church of England have launched a consultation exercise over proposals to merge St Matthew’s C of E Infant and Chadderton Hall Community Junior schools.
If the proposal is given the green light it would mean that Chadderton Hall would close and St Matthew’s would be expanded to become a primary school for pupils aged four to 11 years old.
All parents, governors, staff and stakeholders have been informed of the proposals.
Two consultation events have also been arranged so council officers and diocesan officials can answer questions and so that members of the wider community can learn more.
The first is on Thursday, February 2, from 2m until 4pm, at Chadderton Hall School, Chadderton Hall Road, and the second on Monday, February 6, from 4 until 6pm, at St Matthew’s School, Chadderton Hall Road.
Alternatively views can be sent in writing to: Access Service, PO Box 40, Civic Centre, PO Box 40, West Street, Oldham OL1 1XJ or by e-mail to ecs.pupils@oldham.gov.uk.
In a joint statement, Councillor Hugh McDonald, cabinet member for children, young people, families, leisure and culture, and the Rt Rev Mark Davies, the Bishop of Middleton and chairman of the Diocesan Board of Education, said: “We have arranged these events at different times and on different days so that anyone who wishes to contribute to the consultation exercise has the opportunity to do so.
“The events are open to any parent or carer who has a child currently attending either school and to prospective parents who might be considering sending their child to either school.
“Council and diocesan officers will also be happy to meet any members of the local community who wish to have their say.
“If you have a view on these proposals then we would urge you to take part in the consultation exercise.”
The closing date for comments is Friday, February 17.
