WHILE heavy rain fell across Oldham this weekend, St George’s Day celebrations taking place all over the borough ensured what could have been a grey atmosphere was brightened up by community spirit.
An Olympic assault course, inflatables, a climbing tower and teddy bears’ picnic provided patriotic fun at Royton and Crompton School on Saturday.
Organised by Crompton and Royton District Partnership, the event welcomed some extra special guests in the form of hedgehogs, rescued and cared for by Rochdale Hedgehog Rescue.
Chadderton didn’t miss out on the fun either, when Apfel Lane Community Centre organised a day packed with high-energy activities and lots of arts and crafts.
Organiser Caroline Edwards, a member of Apfel Lane Neighbourhood Community Centre, said: “The day went really well, and luckily we didn’t get rained on.”
One of many scout groups taking part were Chadderton-based Healds Green, who braved the weather to hold a barbecue.
Scout leader Amanda Brown said: “Today’s turnout was fantastic and the children were excited by everything that was going on. “
