Ex-pupils bid farewell with school bricks
Date published: 24 August 2012
A group of South Chadderton pupils will be visiting their former school on Tuesday to - pick up a brick!
The building became part of Oasis Academy Oldham in last September and has been replaced by a new school, which opens in Hollins next month. So pupils are being invited to collecta brick of the old building as a souvenir before it disappears for good.
Former pupil Lynne Kovacs (52), whose son and daughter also attended South Chadderton, has arranged the visit for 6pm. People who want to attend should contact her on 07533-146 388 as numbers have to be confirmed.
The school opened in 1959 and former pupils include England football captain David Platt - now assistant coach at Manchester City; and John Pemberton, who played for Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Leeds United.
There is also a reunion at the Boat and Horses, Broadway, Chadderton, from 7pm on Friday, August 31, for anyone who attended the school.
