School in running for first-aid accolade

THREE staff who saved the life of a pupil have helped their school gain national recognition.
North Chadderton School has been shortlisted in the education sector at the St John Ambulance First Aid Awards. The winners will be be announced in London on November 19.
Pastoral assistants Joanne Kelly, Sarah Byatt and Mel Cunningham performed CPR on a 15-year-old girl who suffered a cardiac arrest at school in March.
The Year 11 pupil was then resuscitated by a paramedic and is now studying at Oldham Sixth Form College.
Head teacher Joy Clark said: “I am delighted to hear the school has reached the national finals. This achievement is fully deserved.”
The awards were launched last year to celebrate individuals, businesses and communities leading the way in first aid.
North Chadderton School is up against four other schools and universities and is also battling for the overall title.
