MAKE a splash at the Cartmel Crescent Allotment Association open day, from 2 to 4pm on Saturday.


As well as activities such as willow weaving, making insect houses and crafts, over eights can also try canoeing, from 11.30am to 1.15pm or 1.30 to 3.15pm. Booking is essential for the canoeing. Contact Ann Bates on 07801-204 804.


ST George’s Square Over 60s Centre celebrates its diamond jubilee from noon to 3pm on Sunday, August 11. Entertainment and activities include a brass band, majorettes, target bowling, crafts and face painting.



DENISE Mellor, from Help for Heroes, is the guest speaker at the next Chadderton Home Watch meeting. New members are welcome at Chadderton Wellbeing Centre, Burnley Street, at 7.30pm, on Tuesday, August 13.

APFEL Lane Community Centre is holding summer activities for four to six-year-olds and over 12s from 3 to 5pm on Mondays and Fridays. Entry is £1. Oldham Play Action Group is also holding a free session at the centre from 3 to 6pm on Monday, August 5.



THE new cul de sac on the former Eustace Street Primary School site is to be called Oldham School Avenue.



ENJOY a ramble around the North-West corner of Chadderton with the historical society tomorrow. Places of interest include the River Irk aqueduct, Th’ Iron Donger bridge and the former Chadderton Golf Club, which closed during the Second World War. Meet at the Victoria Street car park at 7.15pm to arrange transport.
