Parts of Oldham wake up to snow

Date published: 22 January 2019

Snowfall overnight has meant some Oldhamers are waking up to a wintry scene this morning.

Snow has been reported in Delph, Grotton, Moorside, St Marys, Crompton and Denshaw this morning, following wintry showers through the night.

Fog in some areas made driving conditions hazardous in parts of Saddleworth.  Huddersfield Road and Oldham Road were reduced to crawling pace as the snow showers continued.

Gritney Spears, Nicole Salslinger and the rest of the gritter team have been deployed overnight to ensure the borough's roads remain open.

There are currently no reports of closed roads in Oldham, though the A57 Snake Pass has been closed to traffic.

Local meteorologist Jon Bayliss, who runs the @chadweather Twitter account predicts more snow during the day, which is likely to stick even on some lower ground.

Local radio station Revolution 96.2 carries travel bulletins every hour throughout the day, with extra bulletins at Breakfast and on the evening drive.

Further wintry showers are likely for the rest of the day, although any snowfall should slow.
