Buildings have been evacuated in Oldham town centre and the bomb squad are assessing the area after reports of a suspicious package being found.
Officers were called to Bow Street around 11am this morning (Wednesday 6 February 2019) and have been there working to make the area safe since.
Roads off Yorkshire street and Union street are cordoned off and blocked.
One person who works in town and has been evacuated and moved 100 yards away from where officers are working said "I can see the bomb disposal unit, police in vests, a fire engine on the back near Alz gym and all the streets surrounding it is cordoned off. No idea what is happening but we've been told we're safe where we are, 100 yards down the road".
Greater Manchester police tell us that at this stage the disruption caused is believed to be minimal.
