Man dies following a collision in Royton

It was Shortly before 11.38am when police were called to reports of a collision between a white Mazda 3 and a grey Range Rover on Broadway at the junction with Hilbre Avenue.

The Mazda was turning right from Hilbre Avenue onto Broadway when it was involved in a collision with the Range Rover.

The driver of the Mazda, a 76-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition, he died from his injuries in the early hours of Sunday morning (17th February).

No arrests have been made and the driver of the Range Rover stayed at the scene of the collision to speak with officers.

Enquiries are understood to be ongoing with officers continuing to appeal for information.

Police Constable Neil Pennington, of Greater Manchester Police’s Specialist Operations Roads Policing team, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life and my thoughts remain with his family at this time.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed this collision who has not yet come forward to contact us as soon as you can.

“If you were in the area and you have any video or dashcam footage of the collision then please call us as a matter of urgency as this could be vital in allowing us to piece together what happened.”
