Scorched moorland at Saddleworth
At its height crews from Oldham, Ashton, Stalybridge, Hyde and Bolton North were called to the scene, which is understood to be close to the area which was devastated by fire during last summer.
Reports came in of a fire on the moorland at around 9.05pm on Sunday (17th February) above Brushes Road.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said they received a large amount of 999 calls from people reporting the fire with specialist moorland firefighting equipment being used to tackle the blaze.
It’s understood the affected area was around 100 meters square with crews spending around two hours at the scene trying to bring it under control and putting it out.
An investigation has now been launched to try and establish what caused the fire to start.
