Police were called to the car park of The Britannia Tavern on Hollins Road in Hollinwood at around 8.30pm following reports that two people had been assaulted by a group of men.
One of the victims is said to have suffered serious head and facial injuries as a result.
Shortly after the attack a silver hatchback vehicle was seen leaving the car park with several men inside and drove towards the Limeside area of Oldham.
Around the same time as the vehicle left the car park a man was also seen running from the scene into the nearby housing estate.
Officers say they know several people were in the vicinity at the time of the attack and are now calling on those or anyone else who can identify the men involved to contact them.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact police on 101 or via Greater Manchester Police’s ‘live chat’ facility, quoting incident number 2004 of 3rd March 2019.
