Tram surfing
According to Transport bosses in the region they’ve recorded 63 incidents of people, usually young people, sitting on the coupling unit between two tram cars since June 2018.
It’s thought some of the children seen surfing on the network are as young as 11.
In the footage, which is believed to have been filmed on the Altrincham line, a person can be seen sitting on the back of one of the cars, balancing themselves to stop falling off as the train continues its journey.
Later in the footage it becomes clear that there’s another person sitting opposite them, they swing round to almost sit on the first person’s knee.
Bosses at Transport for Greater Manchester say, so far, no injuries have been reported but they are warning the practice could have devastating consequences.
Parents are now being urged to have strong words with their children warning them of the dangers of ‘tram surfing’ in a bid to stop it from happening.
