Pizza equipment professionals, Linda Lewis Kitchens (LLK) were delighted to host pupils from local school, North Chadderton, as part of Oldham Business of the Year’s initiative to ‘Inspire a Generation.’
LLK decided to host the students in participation of ‘World of Work Month’, a month in which companies from all over the UK are invited to share their experiences within the workplace with young people to give them insights into the realities of employment after education.
As one of Oldham’s Businesses of the Year, LLK are passionate about helping the local community in any way that they can.
They have therefore decided to honour ‘World of Work Month’ throughout the year, giving young people an opportunity to learn about LLK and its workforce as well as offering work experience placements to anyone keen to boost their CV and add to their skill set.
Grace Carr, LLK’s Marketing and Events Manager and former pupil of North Chadderton, started the day’s proceedings by delivering an informative presentation highlighting LLK’s range of products and services, their company culture and what sets them apart in the catering equipment industry.
After the presentation, the attendees received a guided tour of LLK’s premises, asking questions to various members of Team LLK about their job roles, key responsibilities and their journeys through employment.
LLK’s workforce is made up of a diverse range of team members, all with their own unique pathways into the world of work- some were taken on by LLK straight after school as an apprentice, while others completed a University degree before applying their skills to their role at LLK.
The students were then taken into LLK’s on-site demonstration kitchen where they got stuck into an interactive cooking class with LLK’s Development Chef, Fabio. The pupils were coupled up and competed to make the best pepperoni pizza before stuffing dessert cannellonis with Nutella and strawberries for afters.
North Chadderton’s KS4 Attainment & Achievement Co-ordinator, Suzanne Robinson, said “the month of March at North Chadderton School is ‘World of Work Month’, where we try to provide employer interactions for as many students as possible. The staff at LLK were very friendly, informative and very welcoming.
The students had a great time and learnt a lot. Many thanks from us all”.
“At LLK, we are extremely passionate about developing the emerging young talent in the borough of Oldham.
In 2017 we were awarded an Oldham Business Award for Supporting Young People and as a result of this we connected with various institutions that have the same motivation for developing young people.
We have the pleasure of hosting various events in the coming months that we hope will inspire a generation into the world of work,” comments Marketing and Events Manager, Grace Carr.
