EU Elections: voters take Brexit revenge

In an otherwise spectacular night, the Brexit Party failed to beat Labour in Oldham
In a spectacular night for Nigel Farage's Brexit Party, both Labour and the Conservatives have suffered large losses across the North West in the European Parliament elections
.
The results of our region were announced in the early hours of the morning, with the distribution of the North West MEPs as follows

Across the region, the Brexit Party achieved a 31% share of the vote, followed by Labour at 22% and the LibDems at 17%.
The results were slightly different in Oldham however, as the Brexit Party failed to top the poll. Nigel Farage's party came a close second to Labour who polled 33.8% of the vote, with the Brexit Party polling 30.4%.
Oldham Council leader Sean Fielding congratulated local activists who campaigned "against a backdrop of disappointing results elsewhere"
Oldham West and Royton MP expressed his delight at the failure of Tommy Robinson to make any electoral in-roads in the region, polling just 2% of the vote. He told is 19,000 Twitter followers "I’m so pleased that Oldham rejected the hate and division of Tommy Robinson at the ballot box. Long after he left town we are here working to unite."
Following widespread success for his Brexit Party, Nigel Farage said he was now getting ready for a general election. He also said he will be "pushing very hard" for the Brexit Party to be part of an EU negotiation team to be formed after the PMs resignation.
He added "Theresa May told us 108 times we would leave on March 29 and we didn't."
