The RSPCA has launched an appeal for information after a dead dog was found dumped in woodland near Oldham.

A member of the public made the horrifying discovery in a secluded area off Holts Lane, in Lees, on Wednesday 24th April 2019.

The body of the dog, a male brindle Staffordshire bull terrier-cross, was found wrapped in a blue sleeping bag.

Initial reports suggested he had a head wound but an inspection of the body found no obvious trauma, although the RSPCA is concerned the dog may have died in suspicious circumstances.

The dog was not microchipped so RSPCA Inspector Catherine Byrnes, who is investigating, is appealing for anyone with information about who previously owned the dog to get in touch.

She said, “Our initial inquiries have failed to find an owner for the dog so we are appealing for the public to help. He was wearing a black harness and we just hope someone will recognise the dog and be able to help identify his owner.

There is no obvious head wound as first suggested although we are concerned about how the dog died so we urge anyone who has any information to get in touch with us on 0300 123 8018.”
