Elderly takeaway carjacked while making a delivery

Police have launched an investigation after an elderly takeaway driver was attacked in Tameside last Monday night (27th May) while making a delivery and had his car stolen.

It was at around 10.20pm when officers received reports that a pensioner had been grabbed and thrown to the floor while trying to deliver a takeaway in Ashton.

It’s understood to have happened on Victoria Street with the victim, believed to be in his 70s, left incredibly shaken but uninjured.

One of the offenders ran off while the other fled the scene in the victims red Toyota Yaris.

In a statement Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly before 10.20pm on 27th May police were called to reports that a delivery driver has his car stolen when he was delivering food on Victoria Street in Ashton”

“The driver- a man in his 70s- was attempting to deliver a takeaway on Victoria Street when he was approached by two men. The offenders grabbed the victim and he was thrown to the floor.

"One of the offenders ran off, and the other fled the scene in the victim’s car- a red Toyota Yaris.

"The victim was incredibly shaken but thankfully not seriously injured.”

"The offenders are described as two white men. One of the men is described as tall and slim and he was wearing a light-coloured hooded top.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
