Summer remains on hold as rain brings warnings of flooding

Yes, it’s the middle of June and yes, we’re usually enjoying the first of the summer sunshine but this year appears to be much different to the norm with people across Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside waking up to yet more rain.

Well we’re now being warned to expect more of the same for this weekend and even into the vast majority of next week.

Forecasters are predicting the wet stuff is going to continue falling right the way through to next Thursday (20th June) which could bring with it some problems on the region’s roads.

Drivers are being warned to take care when commuting to and from work and also allow extra time for their journeys with the rain set to bring with it hazardous driving conditions especially on the main routes including the M62, M60 and M67 in Tameside.

Along with problems on the road the Met Office is also warning the continued rain could bring with it some localised flooding, although it’s not thought it could be on the scale of the Boxing Day floods in Rochdale.

There’s no word on when it’s due to end and the sunshine reappear but it looks like we’ll be digging out the winter coats and putting the heating on for at least another week.
