Victim brought out of coma after Oldham attack

Greater Manchester Police have revealed more details about an incident at a boxing event in Oldham on Friday night (14th June) which left a man in a coma in hospital.

It was at around 9.05pm when officers were called to the Pakistani Community Centre in Glodwick following reports of a large-scale disturbance.

It’s now been confirmed the incident started inside the building on Marlborough Street before spilling out into the car park, however it isn’t clear if the victim was hurt inside or outside the venue.

When officers arrived, they had to perform CPR on the victim, believed to be in his 20s, before he was rushed to hospital having suffered serious injuries.

He was placed in a medically induced coma with GMP now confirming that he has now been brought out of the coma and is said to be responding well to treatment.

Later that same night, during the early hours of Saturday morning (15th June) officers were called to Royal Close in Oldham following reports that a person had been stabbed in the leg.

Police have said they’re keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are connected and are keen to talk to anyone with information about what happened either at the boxing event or on Royal Close.
