The air ambulance took the rider of the motorbike to hospital following the crash
It’s been confirmed the rider of a motorbike involved in a major collision on the M60 in Tameside yesterday afternoon (Thursday 20th June) has suffered potentially life-changing injuries.
Police have given an update on what happened following the crash which caused the motorway to be closed for several hours on the clockwise side and required the rider to be airlifted to hospital.
It was at around 1.25pm when reports first came in of an incident between Junction 23 for Ashton and Junction 24 at Denton Island.
Emergency services including Police, ambulance and fire crews rushed to the scene.
The air ambulance was also required, remaining on the carriageway for over an hour before leaving with the man in a serious condition.
It caused the anti-clockwise side of the M60 to be closed as well.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police have said: “We have been called at 1.24pm to half a mile before junction 24 to a collision between three vehicles and a motorbike clockwise.
"The motorbiker has potentially life-changing injuries.
“He has potentially life changing injuries to his leg.”
The road was closed for several hours while the incident was dealt with, reopening again just after 3pm but the queues stretched all the way back to Junction 22 for Oldham and caused travel problems for the rest of the afternoon and into the evening rush hour.
