Oldham rail group demand meeting with Northern Rail

The dynamic Greenfield Rail Action Group are demanding an urgent meeting with Northern rail in a bid to solve ongoing passengers problems.

The group say surveys show passengers always wanted direct links to Victoria rather than Piccadilly station.

With the change of timetable in May last year trains go directly to Piccadilly meaning access to Ashton, Victoria and beyond has only been possible by changing at Stalybridge.  

A spokesman the GRAG said: “Because of the persistent lateness of trains from Greenfield provided by Trans Pennine, the connection at Stalybridge for the scheduled connecting Northern Rail train to Victoria has rarely been possible.  The connecting train for Victoria has frequently gone.”

The group, meet regularly with Trans Pennine management but an urgent meeting with Northern has been requested to try resolve the problem.

“There is evidence commuters are resorting to using cars as a consequence and in these days when the greater use of public transport is being encouraged the connections need to improve,” the spokesman added.
