Man left with stab wound to the back after stabbing outside Tameside hospital

Forensic teams are understood to be at the scene of a stabbing near to Tameside hospital that has left one man in his 40's with a stab wound to the back.

Police were called to Darnton Road, near Tameside Hospital, in Ashton just before midday following reports of an attack on a man.

A woman in her 30's has been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

A number of roads have been cordoned off surrounding the scene.

Forensic teams are also there, the air ambulance was called as part of the response but it wasn't needed.

A Volkswagen Beetle drove away from the scene shortly after the stabbing and police are actively seeking the male driver of the car. 

Chief Inspector Jane Butler of GMP’s Tameside District, said: “Considering the circumstances, we believe that this is an isolated incident and there’s no further concern for people in the local area. 

“As the incident happened in broad daylight, we’re confident that people would have witnessed what had happened so I’d encourage them to contact our investigation team directly with any information that they have. 

“Enquiries into the incident and the circumstances surrounding it will continue throughout the day, including at the scene but please, if you saw something, let us know.”
