Cooler day in store for Oldham - after yesterday's record-breaking temperatures
Date published: 26 July 2019

A sunny day at Oldham Edge.
After an uncomfortable night's sleep for many people around Oldham, it seems temperatures are going to be coming down over the weekend.
But it comes with a weather warning for rain.
Friday will have a dry and sunny start to the day, but the Met Office says that cloud will thicken through the morning - with some outbreaks of rain possible later on.
They're expecting it to turn thundery at times - though many people may be pleased to hear it will feel fresher than on Thursday.
The top temperature should be around 24°C for Oldham, roughly 9°C lower than Thursday's high.
Thursday was the second hottest day on record in the UK, as thermometres almost passed the 38.5°C that was recorded in Faversham in Kent in August 2003.
If it was an uncomfortable night's sleep on Thursday, though, Friday should be a little easier, according to meteorologists.
They say rain will continue overnight, getting heavy at times, and it will remain warm and humid.
However, it should be around 15°C - compared to last night's 19°C.
Thundery showers should hit our region on Saturday, with the met office issuing a yellow weather warning for rain and thunderstorms.
They say that heavy rainfall may lead to surface water and flooding in a few places.
There is also a small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater.
Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
Saturday should also feel cooler, with maximum temperatures of 20°C in Oldham.
There's expected to be further rain on Sunday, again heavy and thundery at times, though Monday is expected to be drier.
