Met Office issues yellow alert for thunderstorms in Oldham

More rain is on the way for Oldham.

Parts of the borough were hit with flood warnings following heavy rainfall over the weekend, though the Environment Agency removed all alerts for the area.

Almost half a month's worth of rain fell over 24 hours.

But now the Met Office is predicting thunderstorms for Tuesday and Wednesday in Greater Manchester.

Oldham isn't expected to get the worst of the weather, but there is likely to be heavy rain from around 3pm.

Thunderstorms should reach the town by this evening.

A yellow weather alert has been extended across all of Greater Manchester by the Met Office.

They're advising that it could cause some travel disruption and there is the chance of more flooding.

Their website says: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."
