Police appeal for witnesses after collision in Rochdale

Date published: 07 August 2019

A woman is in hospital with critical injuries sustained in a collision in Rochdale.

At around 11.50am on Tuesday 6th August 2019, police were called to reports of a collision on the A640 Milnrow Road between the junctions with Fishwick Street and Wood Street.

A green Iveco Stralis truck was turning off Milnrow Road when it collided with a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 60-year old woman, was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene to speak with officers and no arrests have been made.

Police are appealing for the driver of a purple or blue Nissan Qashqai, seen in the immediate vicinity just prior to the collision, along with any other witnesses, to come forward.

Police Constable Louise Warhurst, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said, “Our thoughts are with the woman and her family as she remains in hospital and we’re doing all we can to support them.

“Whilst I would appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch, we’re particularly keen to speak to the driver of a purple/blue Nissan Qashqai who left a building supplies company, by the scene, only seconds before the collision.

“I want to stress that they aren’t in any trouble but we believe they may hold key information to enable us to piece together the circumstances surrounding this collision.”

Anyone with information should call GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting reference number 1387 of 06/08/2019, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
