Severe delays on Metrolink after communications failure

Metrolink is currently experiencing delays
Metrolink services across Manchester are experiencing severe delays due to a local communications fault.
At 1pm this afternoon (23 October), Metrolink suspended the entire network after a major fault. A number of trams resumed service a short time late, though Metrolink say there are severe delays on the Altricham, MediaCity and Manchester Airport lines. The rest of the network, including the Oldham/Rochdale line are experiencing minor delays.
Hundreds of passengers were stuck on trams across the city and beyond, with customers taking to Twitter to vent their frustration.
Janet Marland tweeted "What is happening? I have a class of 30 7/8 yr olds on a tram at Firswood, they need to be back at school for dinner"
Mike (@Sutty090) asked a question of Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham "[Andy Burnham] wonders why people won’t use our public transport...same old story with Manchester’s public transport. Shambolic."
Others saw the lighter side of the delays, including Kev Greenhalgh who tweeted: "I started following this account recently and all I see is faults daily. Did you guys buy the system from poundstretcher?"
Metrolink tickets are being accepted on the following bus services on the Ashton and Oldham line: 216,217,58, 59, 81, 83, 181, 182, 184. Tickets are also valid on Northern Rail services between the City Centre and Rochdale and Ashton.
