FREE Oldham Birding book now available to download

“Birding Oldham”, an introduction to birding in the Oldham borough, is now online as a free e-book, via Borrowbox / Oldham Library.

James Walsh, the author, has worked with Oldham Council to produce a pioneering publication that shows the borough from a fresh, new angle.

It displays a passion for birds, a focus on Eco-Tourism and many photos of the birds and environment of the Oldham borough.

James told us: “Oldham has a unique environment that I have looked at from the perspective of a resident, a visitor and as an ecologist and birder.

“This book is written primarily for Oldham residents, people who are new to birding, experienced birders, local businesses and for tourists to Greater Manchester.”

The aims for the book include producing a first-class publication that puts the Oldham borough on the national and international map and that generates benefits for local people and businesses,

“I also hope the book is positive for the National Health Service in terms of the mental and physical health benefits of connecting people to nature” states James.

“It’s essentially a book for people who are new to birding and new to Oldham, although I hope that this book can be enjoyed on many different levels.”

“Birding Oldham” is James Walshs’ sixth publication and the first borough specific publication of the “Greater Manchester Birding City Region” project.

James has big ambitions for this project, “In Greater Manchester we are looking for innovative ideas so that we can truly call ourselves a world-leading Green City Region and to boost investment in the Natural Capital Plan.”

“I have been present at a number of business conferences and conducting meetings with potential partners and investors with a view to making this a project that can put Greater Manchester on the world map.

Greater Manchester Birding City Region is a project that is a world first, no other city region in the world has promoted itself as a Birding City Region.”
