An estimated ten thousand people turned out for Oldham's Christmas lights switch on, in Tommyfield Market yesterday.
There were several acts on stage singing to the crowds, as the rain held off, to allow people from all walks of life to enjoy themselves.
Laura Purdey was one of the performers, with her new single - Christmas With You, which is bidding to be Christmas number one this year.
It features a community choir, band and supporting cast assembled by Oldham College.
All proceeds raised from downloads of the song are going direct to STOP THE TRAFFIK (STT).
This is a charity affiliated to Oldham College that is dedicated to raising awareness of the serious and growing issues around human trafficking.
Laura said: "The atmosphere was electric, it was a brilliant event.
"It was great because the rain held off and it felt like a proper concert. It was really cheery, with all the families there with young children.
"There were lots of mobile phones out filming the event.
"We were really well looked after and the whole thing was very well organised by the council."
