Oldham's Omnibus wins innovation award

Date published: 29 November 2019

Oldham-based Omnibus has won an award for innovation at the UK Bus Awards.

Omnibus won Silver for innovation in the New Horizons award for the powerful new features in CrewPLAN - the Omnibus crew optimisation system.

The UK Bus Awards have been recognising industry excellence for over 20 years.  Judges drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and organisations made up six expert panels who assessed the entries.

The UK Bus Awards’ mission is to ‘recognise, reward and inspire’.

CrewPLAN is an automatic crew scheduling system developed by Omnibus and is used by bus companies across the world to create driver duties, quickly and efficiently.

The new CrewPLAN now allows users to consider more complex or nuanced possibilities quickly, via a streamlined process, to create consistently viable duties that are also more efficient.

After engaging with companies from across the UK bus industry, Omnibus has developed new features and enhanced functionality which give users greater control and can deliver even greater efficiencies, often resulting in enviable cost savings.

Clients have been quick to praise CrewPLAN’s capabilities.  Richard Brain, Scheduler for National Express West Midlands, found that he instantly saved two or more hours per rota each day, while Graham Atkins, Network & Schedules Planner for Yellow Buses in Bournemouth, says that it is a very powerful package, which has already saved him and his company many hours:  “It’s a little bit of magic!.”

Peter Crichton, Managing Director, Omnibus, comments:  “The UK Bus Awards are particularly important because they are independent and voted for by a panel of expert judges in each category, who take the time to assess all entrants personally.  So we were delighted to receive this accolade for all the hard work that goes into developing our products to ensure they continue to deliver the very best results for our clients.”
