Police make an arrest after two women were assaulted in Oldham last month

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.
Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
The first incident occurred at 6.30pm on Friday 1st November 2019, when a 61-year-old woman was stabbed on Longfield Crescent, Oldham.
The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries and is continuing her recovery at home.
The second incident, which police believe to be linked, took place on Wednesday 20th November 2019.
On this occasion a 71-year-old woman was attacked by a man with a knife in an alleyway off Stoneleigh Street, Derker, Oldham. The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries but was later discharged.
Detective Inspector Ben Cottam, of GMP’s Major Incident Team said, “While we have arrested a man in connection with this incident, our investigation remains ongoing and we’d encourage anyone with information to contact police.”
