Date published: 14 December 2019

Oldham’s Kelvin Fletcher fought off tough competition to win a dazzling Strictly Come Dancing final, on BBC One tonight.

The former Emmerdale actor, was up against popular Eastenders actrss Emma Barton and actor and TV presenter Karim Zeroual, in one of the tightest contests of Strictly’s history so far.

Kelvin’s ‘Couple’s Choice’ dance, which showcased all his best moves from the series, earned him a perfect score of 40 from the judges and he was second on the leaderboard before the public's vote.

He and his partner Oti Mabuse managed to have the audience on their feet throughout the competition though and they were the favourites heading into the final.

They had judges in tears and were given rapturous audience applause for being worthy winners, after 13 weeks of competition.

Kelvin was emotional and in tears when he was announced the winner.  He thanked everyone involved in the competition and the public for backing him.

Kelvin also thanked Oti for all of the support and training she had given him throughout, telling her: “You’re a credit to this competition. It’s no wonder you are a Strictly favourite.”

The last dance the couple performed was his sexy Samba, which he stormed into the competition with on the first week.

Audiences could see how much he’d improved – that’s despite being a last minute stand in after replacing Jamie Laing, who pulled out of the competition due to injury.

The judges praised Kelvin for his brave dance choices, dance moves and hip action, which has had people talking on social media.

Kelvin’s dad was in the audience in tears when he won, along with his wife, who said: “He inspires me every time I watch him”.
