Oldham Foodbank has received a donation of £1,000 worth of goods to help it add Christmas treats to its emergency food parcels.
Gas network Cadent, which has a major base in Mersey Road North, Hollinwood, made an offer to support the foodbank and six others across its wide UK geographic footprint.
Lee Rowland, Head of Operations for Cadent’s North West network, said: “We’ve had a presence in Oldham since the 19th century, so we are part of the community here.
“We provide the town’s gas emergency service and make sure the underground gas mains are distributing gas safely to keep local homes warm.
"It’s just part of our DNA to look after and look out for people, whenever and however we can.
“As a Christmas gesture from everyone here at Cadent, we approached the foodbank to see if there was anything they needed. They explained that they like to add extra treats – like crackers, selection boxes, mince pies and puddings – to their usual emergency food parcels. We were delighted to be able to help.”
Cadent has offered similar donations to foodbanks close to its sites in Sheffield, Norwich, Slough, Coventry, Hinckley and Birmingham.
Oldham Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust network of foodbanks across the UK, is housed inside the old Three Crowns pub in Manchester Street, Oldham, next to the town’s bus station.
