Police are investigating after a man dies in a crash
A man, thought to be in his twenties, has died following a collision in Heywood.
At 11.20am on New Year's Day, police were called to reports that a car collided with a wall on Heywood Old Road.
Officers attended and found a Toyota Yaris had collided with a brick wall near the junction with Doctor Fold Lane.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the driver – who is believed to be in his 20s – was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.
The road was closed for accident investigation work but has since been reopened.
An investigation has been launched and police are appealing information.
Constable Neil Pennington, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is the worst possible way to start a new year and our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones as we investigate the collision.
“I would like to use this opportunity to appeal for anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact us”.
