The group raised over £1000
A group of local lads from Failsworth gave up a night to sleep rough on the streets over the Christmas period, to raise money for homeless veterans and the Salvation Army.
Backed by the Salavation Army, at 7pm on 23rd of December, they took to Tesco in Failsworth with their sleeping bags and buckets to raise funds.
The Oldham Evening Chronicle spoke to Paul Wadsworth who was part of the group, he said, "Being ex army myself, we wanted the community to come together and support us and raise as much money as we could for the night.
"From hot chocolates, an abundance of coffee, McDonald’s and KFC runs that everyone came to give us with donations- it wasn’t that scary for us, as we had three professional boxers and two professional cage fighters with us.
Liam Wadsworth, Jake James, Steven Scullion, Micheal Hoggard, Paul Grifths and James Trayers managed to raise £1171.99 for the Salvation Army.
Paul added, "The night itself did open our eyes a lot as you could hear every sound that went on.
"It was cold, wet and miserable and we all said that we couldn’t believe that people in this day and age are homeless."
