Two teenagers have been arrested after two men were stabbed in Manchester City Centre.

At around 1.50am on Wednesday 8th January 2020, police were called to reports of a stabbing at the junction of Deansgate and Bootle Street.

Officers attended and found two students who had both been stabbed in the leg by two men.

The victims were taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and remain in police custody for questioning.

The junction was closed but has since been reopened.

Detective Inspector Mark Astbury, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said, “I know incidents of this kind cause concern within communities so I would like to use this opportunity to reassure members of the public that officers attended quickly and two suspects were arrested a short time later.

“I hope this swift action from our officers demonstrates our absolute commitment to making Manchester city centre a safe place.

“Although we have two suspects in custody, our investigation is ongoing so we ask anyone with information to contact us”.
