New technology makes health and record sharing a reality in Oldham

Sharing records is made a reality
People living in Oldham are to benefit from new technology that allows their health and social care records to be shared securely with the professionals involved in their care.
Previously, only a person’s GP records could be viewed by authorised health or social care professionals.
A new digital care record solution, known locally as ‘ShareforYou’, allows relevant information about a person’s health and wellbeing to be shared with health and social care professionals, giving them the fullest picture of an individual’s needs when required.
Sharing information in this way makes care safer as health and social care professionals will have all of the necessary information to hand, such as details of allergies and current medications, reducing potential errors.
Confidentiality is paramount and staff will only be able to access the information they need depending on their role.
Dr. Shelley Grumbridge, GP and Clinical Director at NHS Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said:
“New technology has allowed us to securely connect different health and social care electronic records from different systems.
"This enables healthcare professionals from various organisations to access the right information about each patient at the right time. This will result in them being able to make timely and better informed decisions.
“Having a fuller picture of an individual’s health and social care will lead to improved clinical effectiveness and safety, and for the individual, their care will be more co-ordinated.”
Individuals have the right to opt-out of having their information shared with other health and social care professionals, unless there is a lawful basis to do so, for example, if a patient is unconscious.
Any individual wishing to opt-out should contact their GP practice.
