Flash floods brought chaos across Saddleworth today with reports of homes flooded.

Villagers in Dobcross said a rain storm of “Bibilical” proportions swept down hillsides and lanes bringing water and debris into homes.

This picture, taken near the Austerlands war memorial on Huddersfield Road, shows the torrent cascading near a hair salon. Other villages are reporting rising  water levels on roads caused by blocked drains making driving hazardous.

Meantime, travelers are gearing up for “misery Monday” when the A635 Greenfield-Holmfirth road is scheduled to close for major resurfacing work for ten days with diversions via at A628. Traffic from Holmfirth will be able to journey through Saddleworth in a slow moving convoy with expected long delays.

The alternative route is A635 Manchester Road/Wakefield Road/A6018 Mottram Road, A 628 Manchester Road/Woodhead Road/A616 Whams Road/ Sheffield Road/A635 Holmfirth Road/New Mill Road.
