Action Together making a real difference across Oldham

Action Together have revealed details of grants awarded to local Oldham community groups as part of its COVID-19 Community Response Fund.

A vital community and voluntary sector organisation for Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside, Action Together launched its fundraising appeal and its Covid-19 Community Response Fund a fortnight ago in a bid to provide groups and charities in these areas with urgent funding.

Including in the first batch of grant handouts was £1,000 to Firwood and District Residents Association (FADRA), towards fuel, transport costs and telephone call to support FADRA volunteers to shop for vulnerable residents.

The same total went to the Greenacres Community Association.

The Greenacres Community Centre and Oldham Play Action Group are working together to respond to requests to support people self isolating including elderly residents, isolated families with young children and residents with other vulnerabilities, coming in from the crisis hubs.

A total of £937.50 went to the Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre, to help towards the continuation and scaling up of meals on wheels service will provide access to nutritious warm meals for those affected by the COVID-19 crisis, particularly the homeless and young people on free school meals vulnerable/elderly people in Oldham.

Applications for the Community Response Fund are split into two: up to £200, or up to £1,000.

Action Together is an accredited Volunteer Centre, and provides developmental and funding support for voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations. 

It is organising the co-ordinated volunteering response to coronavirus, and supporting community groups and charities through the pandemic.
