Oldham West and Royton MP Jim McMahon has welcomed Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham’s decision on bus franchising in Greater Manchester.
Commenting on the announcement that Greater Manchester’s bus network would be brought into public control by the GMCA, the Mayor and Transport for Greater Manchester, the Oldham MP and Shadow Transport Secretary said: “This move was much needed and will help to create a bus system in Greater Manchester that works for the people rather than the companies that run it.
“My constituents in Chadderton, Oldham and Royton have been crying out for a bus network that is ran properly and fits in with the wider public transport network, with fare caps, integrated ticketing and timetables and public service routes which are so important to so many of our communities.
“It’s great to see that Greater Manchester is leading the way on this and I hope the Government gives its full support with investment in zero-emission buses, and steps up to help replace the millions of lost bus miles from the last decade."
