Stolen car driver charged with multiple offences - court awaits next month

Date published: 24 May 2021

A man from Denton has been charged with multiple driving offences following a police pursuit which started in Mossley.

Aaron Ashton (aged 19), of Mancunian Road in Denton, was arrested on Saturday for the offences of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving a motor vehicle on an expired provisional licence and driving a motor vehicle on a road with no insurance.

This was as a result of officers seeing Ashton driving a vehicle in Mossley and when requested to stop he engaged in a pursuit.

During the pursuit, Ashton was witnessed to drive dangerously, driving well in excess of the speed limit, contravened red lights and keep left signs.

He was arrested after the vehicle was stopped in Hattersley.

In addition to this, Ashton was also spoken to in relation to another incident of dangerous driving and aggravated taking of a vehicle without the owner's consent.

This referred to an incident when he was seen driving a vehicle in Haughton Green and again engaged in a pursuit with police.

Ashton subsequently abandoned the vehicle and made off on foot, not before vaulting the bonnet of the police car leaving his fingerprints behind as well as a great facial shot on the vehicles dash camera.

The vehicle he was driving was an outstanding stolen.

Ashton was charged with all six offences and is due to appear at Tameside Magistrates Court on June 24, 2021.
