Greater Manchester Police are appealling for CCTV or doorbell footage following the discovery of a body in Salford.
A dog walker found the 17-year-old male in Clowes Park yesterday morning. It's understood he had suffered a stab wound, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Assistant Chief Constable Tony Creely confirmed this morning that a 17-year-old male had been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody.
The incident follows the fatal stabbing of Kennie Carter in Trafford last weekend.
Speaking at the park, ACC Creely said: "On behalf of the investigation team, who are in Salford completing extensive enquiries, I appeal to anyone with information to contact us or Crimestoppers, anonymously. Also, I ask those surrounding Clowes Park to check any CCTV or doorbell footage they have.
"On behalf of Greater Manchester Police, I would like to say, publicly, that our thoughts are with the loved ones of the victim of this stabbing.
"I would like to reiterate the Chief Constable's promise to Greater Manchester that GMP is a force which focusses on fighting, preventing and reducing crime to keep people safe.
"Fighting knife crime is a top priority."
The officer highlighted some of the work GMP is carrying out across the boroughs which included:
- Engaging with young people and their families via specialist engagement officers - encouraging a culture of reporting amongst both peers and family members
- Continuing patrols and stop and searches under our dedicated operation - Sycamore. These patrols focus on areas of concern identified by us and communities.
- Providing a platform via our Forever Amnesty for weapons to be surrendered - since the launch in 2020, we've recovered over 3500 knives via 13 bins across Greater Manchester
The Assistant Chief Constable concluded: "I would like to put it on record that GMP will not tolerate knife crime - we are committed to carrying out thorough investigations which identify those responsible and ensure they face justice."
