Intelligent and unflappably self-assured songsmith, Seb Lowe from Saddleworth, has been secured for his debut Glastonbury Festival appearance, in the same week that he releases his latest mini-album, The Other Half.

The 18 year old has become a sensation on social media platform Tik-Tok, with almost a quarter of a million followers and will perform on the Left Field Stage at Glastonbury this June.

Seb told The Oldham Chronicle: "I'm absolutely amazed I'm getting the opportunity to perform at such an event.

"I was approached after Billy Bragg found one of my videos on Tik-Tok and arrangements went from there. It was all quite casual.

"I think the Left Field Stage will suit my style perfectly.  I will be able to showcase my work, which is directly rooted in the thoughts of young people. It's quite political and observational and will get people talking."

His news comes on the back of releasing his new mini album The Other Half, which some people have described as sounding like 'Eminem meets Bob Dylan'.

Seb studied economics at A level and he's credited with being able to stand up his ideas fearlessly and without hesitation.

He describes some of the songs on the album: “‘Upper Class’ and ‘Rat Sh*t’ are still quite grounded in my usual patter about how broken the world is, but my recent single ‘There She Stood’ is almost a break from that, being a song which is just about a boy and a girl.”

So how has growing up in Oldham influenced Seb?

"I would say I was influenced by my grandad, who you could say was a proper Oldhamer.

"He had a unique view of the world and Oldham infuenced him and was ingrained upon him.

"I also used to take part in the Oldham Theatre Workshop, where young people could sit and talk about anything.

"It got me into singing and the theatre workshop likes to tackle big issues. The way we could talk about a range of topics on anything and everything, really developed my skills."

Seb told us that it's very different performing for the camera in his bedroom, to getting in front of thousands of people on stage, but he's becoming progressively more confident.

"My lyrics and what I write about are my thoughts, but they're also rooted in things, which will make others have conversations.

"Who knows, it would be a dream come true if I could go on and make music my full time career."

An upcoming ‘homecoming’ show at Manchester’s Gorilla goes ahead on Sat 7 May, following a debut, sold out appearance at the Night and Day at the start of the year.

All of the currently confirmed UK live dates for Seb Lowe, including his first major festival appearances, are as follows:

Sat 7 May – Manchester, Gorilla

Fri 13 May – Brighton, The Great Escape - TikTok Stage

Sat 21 May – Warrington, Parr Hall

Sun 29 May – Warrington, Neighbourhood Festival

Sat 25 June - Glastonbury Left Field Stage

The Other Half is Seb Lowe’s second mini-album release, following 2021’s Seb Lowe’s Half Decent, both lifting many of his most popular Tik-Tok performances from the social network and into the studio in the company of producer, James Skelly.
