The RSPCA the world’s oldest and the UK’s largest animal welfare charity has partnered with the UK’s largest vet care provider inspiring vet care, which operates over 900 veterinary practices, to reveal the nation’s top pet names this Adoptober
Inspiring vet care are the RSPCA’s official vet partner for rehoming and Adoptober, working with the charity to help improve animal welfare and pet rehoming across England and Wales. Their support is helping more animals find loving homes more quickly and creating space in centres so RSPCA officers can continue their vital rescue work.
Figures have been provided by inspiring vet care looking at the most popular pet names of cats and dogs registered across its UK practices.
Luna took the top spot for female cats and dogs while Milo was the most popular name for males and this was mirrored in the RSPCA’s data for the most common names of pets coming into its care.
Richard Hooker, Country Medical Director for inspiring vet care, said:
“It’s always interesting to see how pet name trends change over time, with some names having enduring popularity and other shorter-lived trends influenced by sports stars or the musicians popular in the charts.
“For example, although they haven’t hit the top 10 yet we’re seeing lots of pets named after England footballers after their World Cup efforts, and of course we see plenty of Taylors, Arianas and Sabrinas.
“But, despite clear name trends one thing is for certain, every animal we see has their own unique personality.”

RSPCA Chief Veterinary Officer Charlotte Beckett said:
“It’s not surprising that the most common names we see coming into our care reflect what the nation’s top pet names are, though we do also get some rather unusual names here at the RSPCA, too!
“Sometimes they come to us with those names and sometimes we have our very creative and unique teams to thank for the wonderful names our pets get given, from the funny to the topical to the downright different!
“So if you’re looking for a loving pet to join your family, maybe you could give one of our pets with a popular name a fresh start? Or maybe you’d rather take a chance on a rescue animal with a name as unique as their story?”
The RSPCA and inspiring vet care are working together to help get more animals into loving new homes, more quickly, and that’s why the veterinary group is sponsoring the charity’s annual Adoptober campaign.
Inspiring vet care and the RSPCA have launched a partnership to help improve animal welfare and pet rehoming across England and Wales.
