First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) is set to host free sessions for parents and carers of children with autism, ADHD or other neurodivergent conditions at its Alt Community Centre.

The housing association has teamed up with local community organisation Calm Ahead who will deliver three courses called Youth Connect 5 running from November to March next year.

The physical and online initiative has been funded by the NHS and Oldham Council alongside other partners with FCHO granting the use of the centre for free.

The courses will help provide knowledge and understanding of neurodiversity, emotional wellbeing support, practical strategies to support children and opportunities to connect with others.

“FCHO is pleased to use this community space and its strong partnerships to deliver this specialist support in our communities that will help residents and our customers,” said FCHO project and partnerships officer Ghazalla Iqbal.

“This is help close to home that we hope will remove barriers to support and crucially improve the lives of children, young people and their carers.”

Director of Calm Ahead CIC Jenny Eastwood added: “ Calm Ahead is grateful to have received the funding to deliver this course. We understand the challenges many parents experience and have seen the positive impact this support can have on families."

Course one will be on Mondays from 2nd November to 30th November from 10.30 to 12.30pm at the centre in Cherry Avenue.

Course two will be an online programme on Thursdays from 14th January to 11th February from 5.30pm to 7.30pm

Course three will be on Tuesdays from 23rd February to 23rd March from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at the centre.
