Latics pledge support for homelessness charity at New Year's Day game

Date published: 28 December 2022

Latics will be supporting the work of homelessness charity Shelter at their home game against Notts County on New Year’s Day.

With clubs across the country taking part, the #NoHomeKit initiaitve sees teams swap their home kit for an away or third shirt, to raise awareness around the struggles homeless people face at this time of year, meaning the Latics players will be wearing the navy kit on Sunday.

Shelter supports people and families who are suffering from the cost of living crisis, and it’s knock-on effects, with demand for housing being as high as it's ever been.

During the duration of a single football match, 25 households will be made homeless across the UK, which is even more devastating during the tough times we’re facing at the moment.

Last year’s campaign was a huge success, with hundreds of clubs up and down the country taking part, raising over £500,000 for the good cause.

While Latics will play in the navy third kit on New Year’s Day, Notts County will wear their pink away kit.

Fans are also encouraged to get involved by swapping their home shirts for an alternate strip, with donation buckets being located around the ground for people to make donations.

Osama Bhutta, Director of Campaigns at Shelter, said: “Last year it was fantastic to see fans and teams across the country come together to fight the housing emergency.

“Our frontline services are braced for an incredibly tough winter as the cost of living crisis bites, so it’s brilliant that so many teams, fans and celebrities are stepping up and supporting #NoHomeKit this Christmas.”
