Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Oldham Athletic have issued a message to fans who are attending the National League game against York City tonight at Boundary Park.

GMP have been working in partnership with Oldham Athletic leading up to this fixture and expect good behaviour between both home and away fans.

Chief Inspector John Haywood, the Silver Commander, said: “Greater Manchester Police are aware that this fixture may attract some tensions and a small minority of supporters may seek to get involved in violence and anti-social behaviour.

“GMP would like to reassure fans that this fixture will be policed and we look forward to welcoming genuine fans who will be present to support their teams.

“Anyone found to be getting involved in criminality and using this fixture an excuse for doing so, will be dealt robustly.”

Oldham Athletic AFC added: “The club welcomes all supporters to Boundary Park for this fixture but would like to provide a reminder with regards to behaviour of visitors in and around the stadium.

“Encroachment onto the pitch and the use of pyrotechnics are criminal offences and therefore strictly prohibited.

“This fixture will be policed and stewarded robustly to ensure everyone has a safe and secure enjoyment of the game.”

The game kicks off at 7:45pm.
