Hathershaw College Principal salutes successful mock exam results day

Date published: 14 February 2023

Excited students at Hathershaw College collected their mock exam results last Thursday.

This is an important date within the academic calendar, preparing students for their actual exams and results day.

It is seen as an opportunity to encourage and to support, to see where staff can improve, and to remind students that good results come from focus and commitment.

One student who did well was John Brooks.

John has achieved higher than his target grades across all subjects including Maths, English and Science, achieving up to two grades higher in some subjects.

John has shown great determination throughout the year and has made amazing progress.

Mock Results Day was supported Trust wide as ex-Hathershaw student, and current Oldham Sixth Form student Mahfuz Ahmed, joined in the celebrations, providing support and experience from when he sat his exams.

Hathershaw College is part of the Pinnacle Learning Trust, which also includes Oldham Sixth Form College and Werneth Primary School.

One of the Trust’s goals is to support children through all phases of their education and cross-academy support and learning is encouraged and valued.

Mark Giles, Hathershaw College Principal, said: "Every year, the Hathershaw College has a mock exam result’s day, emulating the real event which takes place in August.

“We want to give students a sense of what it might feel like to get good results if they maintain their focus, but also to provide a nudge to those who still have a way to go to get the grades they need to take their intended next steps after school.

"As well using the event to encourage students to work harder or maintain what they are doing, it is a good opportunity to revisit taking care of their mental health and well-being during a year that many find stressful.”

The school deliberately host the event on the same day that Year 11 parents’ evening takes place so that strategies for further improvement can be shared with parents and carers.

Hathershaw is an Ofsted graded good school, with its most recent progress score placing it in the top 30% of all schools nationally.
