Saddleworth celebrity golf day raises £7,000 for MND charity

The George Ford Charity Celebrity AM AM tournament had delighted and excellent hosts in Saddleworth Golf Club.

Saddleworth professional Andrew Earlam said: “The chosen charity was MND and the day managed to raise over £7,000.

“We had the likes of Bill Beaumont, Earl Crabtree and myself playing in the event.

“Special thanks must go to Michelle Asquith and Mike Ford who worked tirelessly to ensure the day ran smoothly and the greenstaff - the comments about the course were fantastic.

“It was a great team effort."

A singles Stableford at Saddleworth saw Mark Abbott top of division one with 41, ahead of Greg Burgess 40 and Michael Farrimond 39.

More big scores in division two were led by Kenneth Shadford 44, from David Whaley 43 and Alistair Wright 40.

A BB Stableford at Saddleworth was won by Mike Jackson and Bryn Parfitt 44, ahead of Eddie Hall and Mike Keaney who won a cpo on 43 from Dave Fox and Kevin Rafferty.

The ‘Road to Formby’ Stableford was won by Mark Roberts 39, from Paul Bamber and Mark Hatton, both 37, and Lee Warburton and Will Potts, both 36.

A singles Stableford at Crompton and Royton had John Nelson leading in with 42, from Anthony Luker and Bernard Brame, both 40.

Meanwhile, Stamford are through to the Oldham Rabbits League cup final where they will meet up with Dukinfield with both topping their groups with impressive results.

In their final cup matches Stamford beat Oldham 12-4 and Houldsworth beat Ashton 11-5.

Dukinfield still lead the league table with 21, from Stamford 20, Ashton 15, Houldsworth 12 and Oldham 9.
