Waterhead Academy staff put their best foot forward for appointed charity

Date published: 20 July 2023

Members of staff from Waterhead Academy undertook a 10K run at Tatton Park last weekend to support one of the appointed Academy charities; NorthCare.

A total of more than £550 has so far been raised in aid of the RAPTOR Theatre Appeal.

The RAPTOR Theatre will be located in the new Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital, currently being built on the Salford Royal Hospital site, and will treat those with life-threatening trauma injuries by performing scans, X-rays, and surgical procedures in one place.

This will save precious time and reduce risk by ensuring patients don’t need to be moved to different locations to be cared for.

Waterhead Academy has worked in partnership with NorthCare throughout the previous three years and has contributed to supporting a range of charitable initiatives inclusive of the Christmas Card appeal whereby students annually send Christmas cards to NHS staff and patients, the knitting for neo-nates campaign; students, staff and stakeholders knitted a range of clothing and blankets for the Neo-Natal Special Care Baby Unit.

They also regularly deliver cakes and chocolates to staff at the Royal Oldham Hospital to show their appreciation for all of their hard work for our community, and most recently supported the 75th Anniversary of the NHS when students designed cards and posters to show their support for the service.

Neil Wilson; Waterhead Academy's Assistant Principal for Personal Development, said: "I am really proud of our students and staff for their continued enthusiasm and dedication to supporting our appointed Academy charities.

"Our students are provided with a range of personal development opportunities to contribute to the local and wider community and they are an absolute credit to our Academy and their families."
